Ely cathedral welcomes Fendt tractor

Two tractors built 60 years apart took pride of place inside Ely cathedral during the city’s annual harvest festival celebrations, which took place on 11 and 12 October.
An Allis-Chalmers tractor, dating from 1948, and a new Fendt 206 drove down the nave to join a display celebrating farming past, present and future in honour of the NFU’s Centenary.
Ely NFU member Trevor Bedford drove the Fendt, supplied by Thurlow Nunn Standen of Littleport, and Allis-Chalmers owner Terry Sparrow took charge of his vintage tractor.
They lined up with a quarter scale farm cart, supplied by farmer Gordon Easton of Coates near Whittlesey.
The display also included sheep, provided by Richard and Margaret Angood from Chatteris, locally grown produce, bees and exhibits from the Farmland Museum at Denny Abbey, Cambridgeshire and NIAB, the National Institute for Agricultural Botany.
The harvest festival display was organised by NFU East Anglia in conjunction with Ely Cathedral. Money raised this year is going to RABI and Cambridge Food Bank.
