A clothing and footwear name synonymous with those working in outdoor environments will no longer exist after being canned by its corporate American owner.
Dickies Workwear has been a mainstay in agriculture since 1900, when it started life as Clares before being brought by Texas-based Williamson-Dickie in the 1980s. The workwear brand’s offering includes waterproof winter clothing, reflective and high-visibility garments, shoes and hats.
However, current US parent company, VF Corporation, based in Denver, Colorado, undertook a review of the setup and decided the workwear arm’s business model was out of line with its financial expectations, however, it will continue to sell the Dickies Streetwear line.
Sadly, the loss to the European market has seen 280 jobs at risk at the distribution facility at Midsomer Norton in Somerset. The business will cease trading at the end of March.
