TMK beefs up Tree Shear blade for smoother cuts

Finnish firm TMK has fine-tuned its 200, 300 and 400 Tree Shears to give a more scissor-like cut. The 310kg mid-ranger is likely to be a popular option for UK contractors with a bushwhacking side hustle, as it can be carried on a range of excavators from 6t to 20t.

Improvements to these next-generation models include a stronger and more durable guillotine blade. As well as increasing the thickness of the Hardox 500 steel from 12mm to 15mm, it has smoothed the cutting edge to reduce friction and lower the likelihood of small shrubs being ripped out, roots and all.

Tweaks to the geometry have also allowed for a bigger opening that discourages loose brash and dirt from lodging in the base of the shear. Maximum cutting diameter is 250mm in hardwood species such as ash, and 300mm in softer stuff.

It can be specced with one of three hydraulic cylinders to suit the hydraulic output of the host machine: a two-stage “turbo” ram for rapid cycle times, a “heavy duty” for maximum cutting power and an “extra power” version for middling performance.

Price with the latter is £5,840. A rotator plate adds another £6,500.
