Swedish firm Ctek is the latest to launch a portable battery booster with enough oomph to start big petrol and diesel engines.

The heavy-duty RB4000 has an integrated four-cell lithium-ion pack that can apparently resuscitate 45 lifeless vehicles before needing a recharge itself.

Its high-discharge system delivers up to 4,000A of starting power, which should be adequate to turn over most 4×4, UTV and tractor engines with 12V lead-acid batteries of pretty much any acronym, including AGM, EFB, WET, GEL and Ca/Ca.

Features include internal management circuitry that regulates voltage and current output to start the engine without putting strain on the battery or electrical system, and spark-proof technology that prevents accidental arcing by only releasing the energy once a solid connection is detected on the clamps.

There’s also reverse polarity protection that automatically isolates the output should a wally couple the clamps to the wrong terminals.

It is small enough to fit in a glovebox or cab cubby, takes 210min to recharge via USB-C and can apparently hold its charge for eight months.

As well as jump-starting motors, the unit can be used as a portable power bank with USB-A and USB-C ports, and it incorporates an LED work light.

List price is £369.90. There’s also a lower output RB3000 version (3,000A) that costs £279.90.
