More torque for lightweight Stihl MSA 220.1 T top-handle saw
© Stihl Stihl has put its latest battery-powered top-handle chainsaw on a weight loss and output boosting regime.
The result is that the MSA 220.1 T is both easier to operate and 10% torquier than the 220 T it supersedes.
A so-called “power boost” function has also been introduced, which allows the saw to draw peak electrical output from its batteries when required.

In the case of the lightweight AP 200 S pack – now compatible with this model – power can be temporarily pushed from the standard 1.25kW to 1.8kW.
Pressing the AP 300 S into service nudges this to 2.1kW and extends working times to 29mins, with the AP 500 S delivering even more sawing per charge.
Other features of note include an adjustable oil pump and a 180deg LED display that means the operator always has a clear view of its readings.
There’s an oil level sensor too, which alerts the user when the tank is nearly empty, and a trigger that remains active for longer once pressed.
In addition, a sturdy ring makes the tool easier to hook onto a carabiner and a two-in-one strop adaptor saves yet more weight.
Like most Stihl saws, the MSA 220.1 T comes with a tool-free oil tank cap, a captive nut on the sprocket cover and an easy-clean air filter.
