Stihl AllPro tabless batteries recharge to 80% in just 9min
© Stihl Stihl has introduced a new range of tool batteries that charge quicker, last longer and deliver more power.
These sweeping improvements are thanks to some clever tabless technology in the AllPro 40V pack.
By doing away with the small metal tabs that transfer electrical current through traditional lithium-ion cells, the firm says it has eliminated bottlenecks that restrict performance and generate heat under load.

Instead, the new system allows energy to evenly pass across the entire surface of each cell, allowing for more efficient power flow and higher peak outputs – the latter up by 60% on the biggest AP 300 version.
They also take less than half the time to recharge with Stihl’s AL 1802 MO rapid rejuicer, with 80% coming in just 9min and 100% in 20min.
This might save the need to carry spare batteries where charging facilities are available on site. The reduction in heat generation should prolong their life, too.
Estimates suggest they will last for at least 3,000 charging cycles – double that of standard APs – before there’s a noticeable drop in performance and, potentially, the best part of 15 years based on a once-a-day top-up.
The AllPro 40V battery system will be available to buy from the start of August and is compatible with Stihl’s 80-odd AP tools, meaning buyers can upgrade their powerpacks without investing in new chainsaws, brushcutters and the like.
Prices start at £150 ex VAT for the AP 100 P (111Wh), the 222Wh version is £215 and the 333Wh AP 300 P is £282. There’s also a 300 PC version of the latter (+£29) that includes a virtual connection for fleet managers to monitor battery usage and location data.
