FW Inventions Comp 2022: The Christie brothers’ double hopper
© Graeme and Steven Christie
Graeme and Steven Christie’s double hopper is runner-up in the simple category of our Inventions Competition.
Brothers Graeme and Steven Christie from Banffshire made a double hopper to save them precious time during the busy lambing period.
The hopper is used for filling their sheep snacker through the central outlet and bags of barley via a spout at the side.

The main body is constructed from a redundant Lely Centerliner fertiliser spreader, mounted on the angle-iron frame of an old diesel tank.
Extended plywood sides and a divider separate the barley from the sheep rolls, and a chute helps to fill the barley bags neatly.
