Focus on early-drilling wheat varieties

RAGT will be focusing on wheat suitable for early drilling and early harvest in relation to their wheat varieties; plus using these varieties to reduce workload.

The company will have seven crop plots, six of wheat and one of spring barley. Varieties in the plots will be: Battalion, Gladiator, Marksman, Ambrosia, Mascot, Shogun (new feed wheat candidate for the Recommended Lists) and Toucan (spring barley).

The main focus will be on three varieties; Battalion (breadmaking), Gladiator (feed) and the newly-recommended Group 2 Marksman. Battalion and Gladiator are particularly useful for early-drill and early harvest, the firm says.

There will also be information on Ixxes forage maize – this variety originates from France, but is said to be suitable for UK growing conditions.

Information will also be available on RAGT’s new site, apparently “the first new plant breeding site in the UK for a number of years”.
