Bluetooth Platemeter gives instant grass height and density results

A bright-orange Platemeter was launched at the Royal Welsh Show last week and claims to be the most advanced unit of its type in the world by using Bluetooth to relay information.

The G1000 is designed to give accurate forecasts by measuring grass height and density to give the farmer an in-field dry matter/ha reading, while removing the need for a pad and pen.

The Platemeter app is free to download on iOS or Android devices and field information can easily be shared with advisers and agronomists. However, the measuring kit still gives a readout on the screen, if Bluetooth is too much of a stretch.

It can also map exactly where measurements were taken from, so it is easy to replicate sampling points for accurate readings. It is also able to record the data from multiple farms.

Available through Agricultural Supply Services in Gloucester, it retails at £700.
