Power hike for John Deere’s 8000-series foragers

John Deere has upped the power of its smaller 8000-series self-propelled foragers.

The longitudinally-mounted 9-litre PowerTech engine of the new 8100 is tuned to 431hp, while the 8200 now packs the firm’s 13.5-litre block. This has resulted in a 34hp rise to 465hp.

Output of the 8300 has also been increased to 505hp, up from 490hp, but the 8500 and 8600 with the same engine remain at 540hp and 625hp, respectively.

There’s a harder-wearing coating for the Dura Line kernel processor, too, which should extend service life on both the 8000 and 9000 series.

In the flagship range, the 825hp 9700 has followed the lead of the 9500 and 9600 by switching to Deere’s 18-litre engine that doesn’t require AdBlue for emissions control.

The upgrade also sees the introduction of HarvestMotion Plus, which ups the torque and power available at low engine speeds.

And the discharge chute is now 20cm longer, which should increase throughput and provide operators with a better view, the company says.

Foragers equipped with a JD Link modem get access to the AutoSetup function, which allows drivers to import pre-planned work schedules to the Gen 4 display.

These appear as the machine crosses the boundary of a designated field, automatically loading work settings and maps.

High-output pick-up

Kemper has developed a new 30R-branded grass pick-up for Deere’s foragers, which offers a working width of 2.7m.

It carries an 800mm-diameter auger, 200mm-deep auger flights and six tine bars equipped with 6.5mm-thick tines.

Highlights include a chainless drive and heavy-duty wearing components, which should reduce maintenance costs.

There’s also the option of Deere’s simpler 6X9 pick-ups, with the 639 offering a working width of 2.56m.
