Hants schools source Hants beef

HAMPSHIRE COUNTY Council has agreed to source all beef for its schools from within the county.
The decision was taken after a development project run by the Meat and Livestock Commission Foodservice Department on behalf of the English Beef and Lamb Executive.
The move will mean ÂŁ100,000 a year which will be spent in the local rural economy.
Richard Ali, EBLEX Chief Executive, said: “For a county council to source all its beef from local farms shows real vision towards supporting a sustainable local economy.
“It is a real step forward and one which we hope to see repeated in other parts of the country.
“In fact, as a result of this action by Hampshire, there has already been interest in the scheme from Southampton City Council and enquiries from elsewhere.”
