Lister refines shearing comb design for better control

With Lister’s latest shearing combs, the devil is very much in the detail when it comes to the refinements aimed at improving entry into the fleece, flow through long runs and greater precision.

Sales director Martin Booth explained: “This refined range is about giving shearers the edge – better flow, better control and a more consistent finish.

“We’ve tested these combs in shearing environments across the world, from the demanding conditions of New Zealand and Australia to farms here in the UK, and the refinements made are shaped by shearer feedback at every stage.”

Three combs have been revised: the 94mm wide, 4mm bevel Lister 394; the new design 494, which aims to strike an effective balance between entry and flow; and another redesign, the Lister 594.

The latter is a medium bevel comb for longer runs where control and rhythm matter most, with reduced drag and improved balance.

Enhanced tooth consistency is said to deliver a cleaner, more even cut, while the refined bevels aim to provide smooth, confident entry.

All three combs are reckoned to have optimised tooth depth and uniformity for slicker cuts with reduced effort, together with a tweaked face bevel scallop profile for improved wool entry and flow for a faster shearing motion.

A more defined and consistent landing strip, tweaked side bevel and a bend profile designed to help the comb flow across the sheep aims to improve shearer comfort and control.

The new-generation combs are available from dealers and Lister’s online store, priced £102 each.
