Massey Ferguson show off new-look 6400 and 7400 tractors

Though much of the buzz on the Massey Ferguson stand revolved around the Tier 3 compliant engines and a new look to its 6400 and 7400 tractors, there were some interesting new developments on the combine and baler front too.
The super-large US-built 9896 isn’t the hybrid combine that MF is working on but is a high-throughput rotary harvester that will be tested in Europe this year.
The specifications are pretty impressive, with a 0.8m x 3.55m long hydrostatically-driven rotor which MF says is the biggest in the industry.
Tables available include 7.7m and 9m widths plus a 9.1m Powerflow version. Though the tank holds 12,300 litres of grain, discharge is said to take just over a minute, thanks to a system that allows extra power from the engine to be used to add muscle to the emptying process.
Power
Power comes from a 425hp Caterpillar engine, with the boost taking it to 459hp.
MF also had one of its new 2100-series big square balers on the stand. These are built at Hesston, Kansas and will be evaluated in Europe this year.
There are four models, the 2150, 2160, 2170 and 2190, which replace the existing 185, 186, 187 and 190 models. Bale sizes are 80 x 88cm, 120 x 70cm, 120 x 88cm and 120 x 128cm.
Key features are tandem axles and a self-steering option, a new 2.26m fully-floating four-auger pickup and a pre-pack chamber to get higher-density bales.
