New Western trailer gives big-capacity haulage

Richard Western was showing off its new Wellington SWT20 20t trailer at Cereals. That sounds like a big trailer, agrees sales director Michael Murray. But with a Claas Lexion 770 tank holding about 9t of wheat (and most farmers wanting to get two brimming tankfulls into a trailer), this is an increasingly popular size of trailer.

There are models from 12-20t in this heavy duty range, with a 60° tip angle, high-clearance tailgate that is ideal for sugar beet duties. It can be specified with three axles, but the beet farmer who had ordered this particular machine chose twin axles with big Vredestein 650/5/26.5 tyres to make it more manoeuvrable and easer to pull through muddy beet fields. In this spec it costs £34,000.
