Lamma 2023: Lynx Engineering completes JD 6800 restoration

A gleaming John Deere 6800 took pride of place on the Lynx Engineering stand, having had more than a year’s worth of painstaking restoration work carried out by the team.

Staff members Mark Purves, Greg Allen and Sam Ewbank took delivery of the near 30-year-old tractor in late 2021 and set about stripping it down ready for a complete overhaul.

The tractor was in reasonable working condition when it arrived but, after delving under the skin, several serious mechanical gremlins were discovered.

These included a leaking rear axle, an engine that was running on five cylinders, and a gearbox that required a full rebuild.

As well as fixing the underlying problems, the team treated the tractor to a full respray in period-correct John Deere green and yellow and refurbished the cab.

The original Dromone pickup hitch was sent back to the factory for a refurb and the viscous fan was upgraded to a new Flexxaire self-cleaning reversing unit.

Finishing touches included a set of chunky BKT 540/65 R28 front and 650/65 R38 rear tyres, a new Zuidberg front linkage with pto and a Stoll Profiline front loader with electronic joystick control.
