Nokian extends Soil King VF tyre range for 100-200hp tractors

Two sizes suited to 100-200hp tractors have been added to the Nokian Soil King VF radial tractor tyre range, bringing the benefits of this particular design – and the VF characteristics in general – further down the power rankings.

The Soil King VF was introduced last year as the Finnish manufacturer’s first venture into the very high flexion (VF) category, which promises up to 40% lower inflation pressures for a given load versus “standard” equivalents.

A tough but highly flexible sidewall structure is a key element of this ability, allowing the tyre to deform and create a longer and slightly wider contact patch for least impact on the soil and also maximum traction on draft work.

The Soil King VF has previously been available in 12 sizes from VF 540/65 R30 to VF 710/75 R42.

The new VF 540/65 R28 and VF 650/65 R38 pairing takes the range to 14 sizes with more to follow, says Nokian’s Heavy Tire division.

The tyre’s distinctive tread design has largely conventional lugs for about three-quarters of their length out to the sidewall, but they alter at their inner end into a broader, blocky shape to form a near-continuous centre line around the tyre.

The aim, say Nokian engineers, was to achieve a lug shape and carcass structure that give a good “bite” into the soil surface for cultivations and other draft work, along with good traction, low rolling resistance, and comfortable levels of noise and vibration on the road.
