Xtra models supersede 205-305hp Massey Ferguson 8S tractors

Massey Ferguson is to replace its standard 2020-launched 8S range with a series of “Xtra” tractors that cover the same power outputs.
The changes sound more sweeping than they are, with improvements focused on aesthetics and comfort.

Mechanicals are largely unchanged, with the same six models running from the 205hp 8S.205 to the 305hp 8S.305.
All but the largest get a boost function on the 7.4-litre Agco Power six-cylinder that adds up to 20hp under heavy load.

However, buyers might wring a little more performance from the engine thanks to new software that is reckoned to reduce the power draw from the cooling fan.
This could deliver output gains of up to 5% and a small fuel saving to boot – something existing 8S owners can also benefit from through a dealer-applied update.
There is now the option of a reverse mode for the fan, too, allowing operators to clear debris from the grille to ease its workload in dry, dusty conditions.

Other notable improvements include a revamped 20-light LED package that puts out 51,500 lumens – 17,400 more than before – and a new steering wheel with a single-hand spinner ball.
Plus, there’s a narrower, matte black exhaust pipe tucked neatly in front of the A-pillar that matches the new inky colour scheme of the grille and bonnet side panels.
And a revised list of optional extras now extends to hydraulic valve decompression levers on base-spec Efficient models and an entertainment pack that adds Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Customisation
There’s plenty of scope for further 8S Xtra customisation through Massey’s MF By You workshop, which offers 160 bespoke options unavailable on the standard factory line.
The facility waved its wand over an estimated 25% of all tractors produced at the firm’s plant in Beauvais, France, last year, from the smallest 4700 to the flagship 9S.

Popular options include tyre and rim upgrades, custom paint colours and all manner of extras, from cab carpet, sound systems and fridges to fancy LED lights, fire extinguishers and central tyre inflation systems.
