Welsh slaughterer to downsize

THE LARGE Welsh slaughterer Cwmni Cig Mon has hit problems and is scaling back the size of its business.
Cwmni Cig Mon managing director Owen Owen told FARMERS WEEKLY that the company was selling its plant at St Asaph and moving back to its mothballed original abattoir at Llangefni in Anglesey.
He said the move was the first step in a management team buy-out of the company.
However, Mr Owen added that the impact of foot-and-mouth on available stock numbers was hitting the economics of the whole meat industry hard.
