£20,000-a-month guard on empty farm

POLICE are spending more than £20,000 a month guarding the empty home of a farmer accused of murdering a teenage burglar.

Tony Martin, 54, is staying at a secret address, but police fear that criminals could seek revenge for the shooting of Fred Barras, 16, by attacking his farm.

At least two officers are on guard at any time at Bleak House Farm, at Emneth Hungate, Norfolk. Officers have allegedly heard threats against Martin and his 350-acre farm.

Two others caught in the attempted burglary on Martins farm admitted the offence and will be sentenced next month.
