20% more in first beef payment

FARMERS are to receive 80% of the beef suckler premium in their first cheque to make up for processing delays.
Junior farm minister Joyce Quin told the BBC Radio 4 Farming Today programme that payments, delayed since November, are now being made.
“We have been able to pay payments at the rate of 80% rather than the 60% producers were expecting,” she revealed.
Producers usually get 60% in the autumn and the balance of the €182 per cow premium in the spring.
The 20% remainder will be paid at the end of March.
The minister ruled out any compensation to make up for the delay.
