2700gns for best of B&Ws

ONE of the choicest lots on offer at the Top 10% sale of high genetic merit Holstein Friesian cattle made 2700gns when stylish, fresh calvers were in sharpest demand at this Exeter sale.

Chartroise Bell Sue, a Maizefield Bellwood in-calf heifer from Europon Livestock, was bred out of a dam with a 12,547kg heifer lactation. She had a PIN +£109. Her eventual buyer was an undisclosed Dorset breeder.

Roger and Marie Leggs Mussbee Prelude Pet 5th from their herd at Saltash, Cornwall, led the calved heifers at 1580gns. She was giving 42kg a day, enough to impress buyers Robert and Jane Targett who claimed her for their Carymoor herd in Somerset.

Moet Mica Sunshine A, an April 1997-bred heifer out of an Aerostar dam, made the highest price from the Genus Moet Nucleus herds consignment. She goes to Dennis Smith at 1550gns for his Oakroyal herd.

Averages: four calves cows £966; 20 calved heifers £1039; 18 in-calf heifers £999; four bulling heifers £732 and four bulls £976. (R B Taylor and Sons) &#42
