900gns top call for Texel ewe

LOCAL breeders had to compete against mainland bidding for in-lamb Texel ewes during a day of strong trading at Portadown.

The Blackstown (Jim Wilson), Springhill (John Foster) and Hillhead (Michael Watson) flocks consigned 67 females. Top call of 900gns came for a much-admired three-shear ewe from Springhill sired by the successful flock sire Milton of North Yarmouth.

The ewe was in-lamb to Ballydonaghy Duck and was bought by Miss Eunson, Co Fermangh.

Best for Hillhead was an 800gns bid from Richard Henderson, Tobermore for a ewe by Brague Arkle and in-lamb to Craig Cantona.

Louise Reid, Downpatrick, is well known as a buyer of top-notch Texels and this sale was no exception. She gave 740gns for a smart daughter of Kiltarrif Broker from the Blackstown entry. (Auto-mart).
