A-As in demand
NORTHERN Ireland breeders jumped at the chance to buy stock from the Old Glenort herd of Aberdeen-Angus when Bill Porter and his son James offered a selection of stock at an evening sale at their farm at Glenavy.
Spurred on by newcomers to the breed eager to claim foundation stock, the trade set off at a cracking pace, quickly reaching 2600gns. It was paid by Clifford Lilburn for his new herd at Ballinderry.
He bought Erilla 3rd of Monkwood, a 1993-bred brood cow by Master Patriot of Greenyards and in-calf to service sire Bruno of Spittal Shore, bought at Perth for 10,500gns.
Intense interest in her daughter Erilla of the Lodge, bred by C Henderson, Draperstown, produced a spirited trade when Lois Cann, Maghera, paid 2500gns (Automart).
for her. She was sired by Wiwa Creek North Star and in-calf to Bruno.
Mr Lilburn paid the highest price for maiden heifers giving 1800gns for a Bruno daughter, the bulls first to be offered at auction. Another new breeder, Noel Linton, Dromore took two in-calf cows including one by Cambusbarron Punch, at 1400gns and 1050gns. (Automart).
