A look into the future with biotechnology
BIOTECHNOLOGY is being used in Africa to modify the cassava plant to extend its life expectancy and to model it so it requires less processing.
The science is also creating potatoes that absorb less fat when put in a deep fryer.
A feature in The Daily Telegraphs Connected supplement says biotechnology will eventually create food crops that protect themselves from environmental stresses and even plants that self-fertilise so fewer tractors and less irrigation will be required.
