ABP backing Bathgate
MEAT processing firm ABP has given a commitment to keep its Bathgate plant near Edinburgh open for processing lambs this season after proposals to cut running cuts were submitted by management.
The plant can handle up to 15,000 lambs a week and will raise through-put over the next month as more stock are finished across the north.
ABP intends to dedicate itself to processing beef cattle, although its plants at Shrewsbury and Lurgan, Ulster do also have sheep lines. The firm announced it was closing in January, but delayed this by a month in April to allow cost cutting to be discussed. *
