ACCS has 1m tonnes signed

MEMBERSHIP of the Assured Combinable Crops Scheme now represents almost 1m tonnes of grain production.

By Monday the Witney, Oxon, offices of scheme administrators UKFQC had received 145 membership applications. The target is 4000 by the end of the month.

Meanwhile, 59 scheme verifiers have been appointed and trained, with the emphasis on a fair, practical and farmer friendly manner, says scheme manager Bill Young.

"With the recent press coverage about supposed hoards of snoopers policing UK farms, we want ACCS members to rest assured that our verifiers are knowledgeable, friendly, practical and approachable."

The two days of training at Shuttleworth College, Beds, involved on-farm verification exercises and concluded with a written exam. A further 20 verifiers are due to be trained at Harper Adams College, Shropshire. &#42
