Activists notify farmers of GM crops attack

ANTI-BIOTECH activists are threatening to rip up genetically modified (GM) plants at test sites from Saturday.

Genetix Snowball, based in Manchester, has written to farmers whose land is being used to test the plants. They say the action will be non-violent and they will bag the plants and leave them on-site.

The group is calling for a five-year moratorium on GM food and crops. Plants at more than 20 sites have been torn up since January.

Protesters said their action would be focused initially in south-east England, but it is feared more sites will be targeted.
