Aid applications soar to Scottish rural charity

A RECORD number of applications for financial aid are being made to Scotlands leading rural charity.

Ian Purves-Hume, director of the Royal Scottish Agricultural Benevolent Institution, said that the farming crisis had left many in dire straits.

Mr Purves-Hume said many of those leaving agriculture had poor or limited redundancy payments and no pension provision.

The Scottish charity allocated grants last year to more than 600 people.
