All mapped out with this pocket sized calculator

LATEST addition from Farm Works, based at Stirling, Scotland, is the companys Farm Site Mate – a hand-held computer designed to create field boundary maps and log field characteristics. The size of a pocket calculator, the Farm Site Mate is capable of working with any GPS receivers, which outputs a NMEA data string.

Field boundaries are created by driving a vehicle equipped with the device around the perimeter of the field – the system employs GPS navigation to plot the outline of the field and the operator uses a digital pen to draw in characteristics such as weed infestation, soil type and land drains.

The device can also be used to log soil sample points, create grids, display sizes of mapped fields, together with distanced travelled.

Information can then be logged onto rate controllers for the following makes: Amazone, Bogballe, LH-Agro, Midtech, Raven, RDS and Vicon. Price is from £250.
