All-Wales co-op ‘under threat’

A PIONEERING co-operative scheme for Welsh livestock farmers which failed to attract enough support looks under threat, according to the Financial Times.

Only 700 have signed up to support the Welsh Meat Company. Organisers had hoped at least 1000 farmers would sign up by the end of June deadline.

The FT reports that Rhodri Morgan, first secretary of Wales, has criticised the “wait-and-see” attitude of Welsh farmers.

Bob Parry, president of the Farmers Union of Wales, told the paper that farmers were suspicious about a new company with no record.
