Alpacas pull the crowds

ALMOST half a million pounds was spent on alpacas last weekend, when livestock importer James Graham put 103 head of imported females onto the market at Chelford in Cheshire.

Mr Graham, who runs Alpacas of Europe from his home in the Isle of Man, had personally selected over 300 alpacas following a trip to the Alto Plano in the Andes.

A third of the importation had been sold privately but the remaining females, including 35 with cria at foot, drew a big crowd to Chelford for the largest UK sale of alpacas.

Bidding kicked off in top gear when the first lot into the ring sold for 5000gns.

Mainstream bidding saw most deals done at 4000-5000gns to level the 103 head at £4632. (Frank R Marshall and Co.). &#42
