ALL-TERRAIN vehicle enthusiasts now have another format to consider, the amphibious six-wheel, US-built Max.
According to its importer, Bath Special Vehicles, the Max is claimed to offer several advantages over conventional ATVs.
It has a much lower centre of gravity, says the company, and, because passengers sit in rather than on the machine, the risk and consequences of a roll-over are much reduced. A roll bar is included in the specification.
Built in various sizes, the basic machine is powered by a 480cc Briggs and Stratton Vanguard engine rated at 16hp, with drive to the six wheels through an automatic transmission. On skid-steer machines, two levers are employed, pulling them both back brings the vehicle to a halt.
Performance for this particular version is stated as a top speed of 25mph, 4mph in water. Cargo carrying capacity is up to 500kg and options include a track kit, winch and road lighting kit. Price starts at £5999.
More powerful engines – up to 25hp are offered in other models in the range – with the range-topping 4-passenger Max 1V 900-T having a 725cc Kohler Command engine.
