And disappointed Pextons pledge

OUSTED NFU deputy president Tony Pexton has vowed to continue fighting for British farming.

Mr Pexton who farms a 445ha (1100 acre) arable holding and 400-pig unit in Yorkshire, told farmers weekly that he was surprised and disappointed after he failed to win the seat of deputy or president in the NFU elections.

"But I am very definitely not sulking. After eight years as a senior office holder I have learned a lot and I hope to put my experience to good use. There is so much that needs to be done for farming and I want to play a key role in the future," he said.

He added that he had already begun discussions with a number of parties and suggested he would like to help "bridge the gaps between retailers and producers in some way".
