Anti-French boycott bites in UK

By FWi staff

SALES of French goods have plummeted since consumers were urged to boycott imports in protest at Frances ban on British beef, a new survey has revealed.

French apple sales are down 39%, while French soft cheeses have slumped by almost a third in recent weeks, reports the Daily Mail.

The newspaper says the report authors, who interviewed 10,000 households, believe this can be directly traced to The Mails Just Say Non! campaign.

The survey also shows that there were some increases in sales of British soft cheeses and English apples.

While the has been at the forefront of calls to boycott French produce, the newspaper is currently running a special offer on ferry day-trips to France.

While day-trips across the Channel are usually made to buy cheap French wine, beer and food at French hypermarkets, the Mail insists this is a chance for readers to “stock up for Christmas with Great British goods”.
