Apple rediscovered after 55 years
By FWi staff
APPLE experts are trying to contact the person who brought in a lost variety of the fruit to an apple day at Dorchester College of Agriculture.
Five days after the open day, the mystery fruit was identified as the Profit, a variety of cooking apple last recorded in 1946, reports The Daily Telegraph.
However, no one had taken the name of the person who brought the cooker to the event at Kingston Maurward, leading to an appeal from pomologists.
Expert Harry Baker said: We would like to contact him so we can take a graft from the tree for the Royal Horticultural Society collection.
