Feed the world… 22,500t of feed wheat leaves Southampton for Afghanistan under the world food-aid programme. Nigel Goodhew of Soufflet Agriculture – which got the business via tender – says it shows how the UK can broaden its export drive in the face of the depressed European market. Ex-farm values have slipped to about £76/t and, according to the HGCA, could fall further with under half the 3.5m tonne export availability shipped. "With sterling back at nearly 3DM, it is back to square one," said one trader on Wednesday.
