uEAST Anglian machinery firm Farm & Country have gone into administrative receivership. The business, which operates mainly as a New Holland dealer and has an £11m turnover, will be sold as a going concern. Jonathan Sisson of receivers Coopers & Lybrand blamed the drop in sales on falling farm incomes. About a third of the 61 staff are expected to be made redundant, he added.

uFRANCE is spending £5m a year on red meat promotion in a bid to boost consumption. Levies are raised equally from producers and the meat sector, totalling 0.8p/kg deadweight. "Consumption here has been falling between 2% and 3% a year, where meat has always been seen as an essential part of the diet," said Louis Orenga, director of the Centre of Meat Information.
