Sweet stuff… Duke sugar beet yielded a pleasing 55t/ha (22t/acre) at Ireland Farms Grange Farm, North Rauceby, Lincs. Sugar content was 18.1%, well above average for the season. Grower Mark Ireland had 587ha (1450 acres) of beet to lift this season, but all heavy land – about 20% of the total area – has now been cleared. But good yields suggest 3-400t of C beet is likely. At a predicted net price of £3-4/t, it is not a welcome prospect.
