&#8226 THREE men were arrested on a farm in Norfolk last week in connection with the illegal slaughter of sheep as part of a joint operation between the police and RSPCA officials. Inspectors found sheep being slaughtered in full view of other animals which is illegal in the UK.

&#8226 BEE careful. Farmers are being warned they could face heavy fines if they destroy honey bees while spraying. Farmers are legally required to give local beekeepers associations at least 48 hours notice before spraying.

&#8226 THE Co-op has announced that all of its free range eggs will be from hens fed on a GM-free diet. The move is due to consumer unease about GM material in animal feed.

&#8226 FARMERS For Action, NFU of England and Wales, and FUW are to meet Tesco at Birmingham next Thursday (May 4) where milk prices will be high on the agenda.

Tesco has refused to add 5p a litre to retail milk prices to pass back to farmers because it claims the move would be illegal.

But according to FFA spokesman Rhys Parry, FUW lawyers who will also be present at the meeting, believe that their research proves that is not so.
