Drive ban proposals are way off course
The European Commission is no stranger to bizarre rules.
But proposals concerning whole-body vibrations must be one of the strangest and potentially most damaging.
Sadly, this nonsense is far from dead. Currently it is under review thanks to the efforts of the Health and Safety Executive, which pointed out the absurdity of a proposal that could limit the time a tractor driver could work to as little as 30 minutes. If the idea becomes EU law, which the HSE believes could happen within the next four years, the consequences for the industry will be severe.
When farming needs all the help it can get, the EU should concentrate its efforts on more worthwhile targets.
