Prototype has real potential
One of the first users of the Eclipse bale stacker is North-Yorks based Brian Peacock, who bales over 2000ha (5000 acres) a year of straw some for resale and a lot for stock farmers.
Using a prototype version last season Mr Peacock says the machine replaced telescopic handlers, tractors and trailers and had the potential to clear 1000 bales/day – with just one man. "The key to the straw business is an ability to clear fields quickly and make the minimum amount of mess when doing it," he says. "Growers using minimal tillage systems are now much more aware of ground compaction problems and will not tolerate excessive damage."
