AROUND THE SALES

FINISHED CATTLE: The Builth Wells tup sale, together with the large number of people drilling corn, led to reduced entries at Ludlow, Shropshire on Monday, report auctioneers McCartneys. But prices for the 401 head were similar to the previous week. Overall averages among the medium-weights were 100.6p/kg for steers, 100.3p/kg for heifers and 104.6p/kg for bulls.

MILK QUOTA: Lower milk prices were a factor at Chelfords auction on Monday, say auctioneers Frank R Marshall. The average price was 9.25p/litre, down about 0.5p on the previous sale at this Cheshire venue two weeks ago.
