AstraZeneca in Japanese GM deal
ASTRAZENECA is forming a joint venture with Japan Tobacco to research and develop genetically modified rice varieties.
The venture will be equally owned although AstraZenecas contribution will be principally in terms of the gene work itself.
The research programme will be based in Japan, but will have links to Zenecas research centres in Europe.
The companies said they expected the first products to be available for commercialisation in about five years time.
