Atough triathlon for Scottish school milk
SCHOOL milk provision in Scotland is set to benefit from a charity initiative from one determined cattle feed specialist.
Mike Gradwell who works for ABN company KE Alternative Feeds, intends to compete in the gruelling UK Ironman Triathlon, in Wolverhampton on Aug 15. For this he must swim 2.4 miles in open water, cycle 112 miles and then run a full marathon of 26.2 miles – all of which must be completed non-stop in under 14 hours.
Mike, is being sponsored by dairy farmers in Scotland and aims to raise at least £3000 – the cost of providing free milk for a Scottish primary school – as part of the ABN Milk Initiative. To date, 28 UK schools have been provided with free milk, thanks to ABN, The Express, and UK Dairies.
"With nutrition being a major part in any race thats going to last up to 14 hours of non-stop exertion, milk has a major part to play in my build-up training for the race," says Mike. "It seems criminal that so many children dont see the benefits from such a nutritious drink, so I jumped at the opportunity to do something about it."
Set the bull rolling…Hazel Killick from Coates Farm, Much Wenlock, Shropshire, sold this Holstein bull – Peasfurlong Rubytom – at Crewe market to raise money for FARM-Africa.
It went under the hammer for 600gns.
