Australian exports to Asia bounce back

By Boyd Champness

AUSTRALIAS food exports to Asia have rebounded to levels above those attained before the Asian economic crisis.

Supermarket to Asia figures show March quarter 1999 exports were up 14% to A$1.82 billion (£750m) on the March 1998 quarter and 12% above the pre-Asian crisis March `97 quarter.

Supermarket to Asia executive director Jim Kennedy said the performance varied for meat, grains, dairy and horticulture but Australia had continued to find market opportunities.
