Baking grain boost

Baking grain boost

BAKING quality of winter wheat can be boosted by late foliar urea, but only if growers apply no more than 50kg/ha (40 units/acre).

HGCA-funded work shows that although higher rates give further improvements in grain protein content, there is no corresponding increase in baking performance.

Two years trials show ammonium has no effect on baking performance, but there is a small response to urea treatment of 25-50kg N/ha (20-40 units/acre).

Future work aims to find rapid, reliable monitoring methods. &#42
