Banbury debut of Belgian Blue

PEDIGREE Belgian Blue cattle appeared for the first time at Banbury, Oxon last week when the Isis herd was dispersed.

The sale, on behalf of Mr and Mrs B Hawkes, Swindon, saw a top price of 980gns. This came from Mr Baldwin, Coleford, Glos for Isis Kassandra, an Apr 1993-bred cow with Lou Lou and Eclatant breeding behind her.

Trading was considered good despite the cattle being small-framed. A 950gns bid was seen for a seven-year-old Gaillard cow with calf at foot. The day included a small consignment from the Ragdale Charolais herd owned by Frank Bowley, Melton Mowbray, Leics. Top bid was 1650gns for a 1992-bred cow with a bull calf at foot. Buyers were B Blandford and Sons, Ledbury, Herefordshire.

AVERAGES: Isis – six cows and calves £1305; four in-calf cows £926; two served heifers £861 and two maiden heifers £661. Ragdale – three cows and calves £1645; nine in-calf cows £997 & two young bulls £745. (Midland Marts)
