Beef back in Brussels tomorrow
BRITISH beef will be back on the menu in central Brussels tomorrow, courtesy of the Meat and Livestock Commission (MLC), which has organised a celebratory lunch.
It will be the first time that British beef has been eaten abroad since exports were banned at the height of the BSE crisis in March 1996.
A shipment of fillet steak has been sent from St Merryn Meat in Cornwall – the only British abattoir licensed to export beef since the ban was lifted on 1 August.
Among the guests at the lunch will be Don Curry, the MLC chairman, and Joyce Quin, minister for agriculture.
