Bestfoods fights Unilever bid

US food company Bestfoods is discussing the sale of its bakery business to British group Diageo, reports the Financial Times.

This is reported to be part of its defence against Unilevers unsolicited $18.4 billion (12.4bn) takeover proposal.

The FT predicts that Bestfoods, which includes Knorr Soups and Hellmanns mayonnaise among its brands, would launch the defence this week.
