Beware IACS trap

WHEN is a watercourse not a watercourse? When it is behind a hedge, warns Richard Barker of Suffolk-based solicitor Barker Gotelee.

Such details will be zealously applied by MAFF after the UK received a slap on the wrist from Brussels over administration of the sheep regime, he believes.

"Get it right," he says. Growers planning to take advantage of the new 10m set-aside option adjacent to watercourses, which could include dry ditches, should take note. If there is a hedge between the watercourse and set-aside, MAFF will not consider them to be adjacent and will want 20m of set-aside, he says. &#42
